In-person on-demand session
Hydrocarbon Flow Digital Twin: What is Beyond Calibrating Wells and Network Models ?
ABOUT THE SESSION
Ahmad Shammari, the PIPESIM Product Champion at SLB, brings over 20 years of expertise in oil and gas production optimization and Digital Oil Field technologies. At SLB, he leads the development of the industry-standard multiphase flow simulator, PIPESIM. His earlier tenure at Saudi Aramco spanned 15 years, where he managed projects in integrated asset modeling, flow assurance, advanced completions, and artificial lift. Ahmad also pioneered automated workflows for virtual metering and well model calibration, earning two U.S. patents. Known for his technical leadership and strategic foresight, he is now focused on advancing Hydrocarbon Flow Digital Twins. He will discuss how these digital twins can evolve beyond traditional well and network model calibration. His session will explore integrating real-time data, enabling predictive optimization, and improving field-wide efficiency.
Imagine a digital mirror that reflects not just the shape but the behavior of your entire oil and gas production system in real time — that’s the power of the Hydrocarbon Flow Digital Twin (HFDT). Ahmad Shammari will delve into how this virtual replica, built on real-time data, field measurements, and simulation models, is transforming production optimization. More than just a buzzword, HFDT offers a living, evolving model of hydrocarbon flow through wells and pipeline networks. He will break down the spectrum of HFDT applications, from basic spreadsheets to advanced dashboards used by major NOCs and service providers. With a foundation in continuously calibrated hydraulic models, these tools offer deep insights into performance and operations. Ahmad will guide attendees through the types, benefits, challenges, and the strategic potential of HFDTs in the digital oilfield. He’ll also share where innovation is headed in the next decade — and what companies must do to stay ahead.
Key Topics-
1. “Digital Twin” is a term that gained popularity in the past decade and is currently used by different businesses and organizations around the world to describe a virtual representation of a physical asset by relying on realtime data and/or algorithms to be converted into a form of visualization to replicate the shape, process or behavior of the physical system. Using this definition, we can specifically describe the Hydrocarbon Flow Digital Twin (HFDT) as a virtual representation of the oil and gas production asset utilizing field measurements, real-time data and simulation models to provide a comprehensive real-time simulation of the hydrocarbon flow behavior in wells and pipeline networks.
2. Several HFDT solutions are available and used today by different O&G companies; with different levels of granularity, visualization tools, complexity and purpose. However, almost all HFDTs share a common basic foundation: hydraulic simulation models with continuous update and calibration.
3. In this presentation, you will learn the different HFDT types and levels of implementation, starting from an Excel sheet, until the most sophisticated production surveillance dashboard produced by the major O&G NOCs, operators and services companies. What are the basic foundations, insights, challenges and the latest advancements and where is the trend going in the coming decade.
