ABOUT THE SESSION

István Szőke, the Research Manager of the Applied Physical Sciences department at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), brings deep expertise in nuclear research, digitalization, and robotics. As Head of Research for the DECOM Cluster and technical lead for IFE’s collaboration with the IAEA, he has been at the forefront of innovation in hazardous environment technologies. He is the founder of the DigiDECOM workshop series and leads the HADRON lab, which focuses on hazard-aware digitalization and robotics. He will share his insights on how advanced digital twin technologies—pioneered in the nuclear sector—can be adapted to the oil and gas industry, offering powerful tools for risk reduction, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.

He will share his insights on HADRON lab’s groundbreaking work at IFE, where AI, robotics, and data technologies are being leveraged to enhance safety and operational efficiency in nuclear and other high-risk industries. The presentation will highlight IFE’s leadership in integrating hazard-aware digitalization, with a focus on real-world applications that improve resilience and automation. He will showcase key European projects and working groups that push the frontiers of digital systems innovation. As Deputy Leader of the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre and head of the DECOM Cluster, he brings a wealth of expertise in decommissioning and repurposing. The session will also spotlight IFE’s role as an IAEA Collaborating Centre and host of the DigiDECOM conference, reflecting its global influence in advancing digital twin and robotics technologies. Drawing from nuclear sector success stories, he will explore how these advancements can be applied in oil and gas to drive smarter, safer operations across the board.
